Lift Sopot - one of the best places for paragliding flights was nominated as a host in 2020 as a result of numerous successfully organized international competitions and an excellently prepared presentation.
The World Cup has the highest rating in the sports calendar of The International Air Sports Federation (FAI) and brings points for the world ranking.
The competition brought together 130 leading pilots from 45 countries.
The competition flights in this discipline were highly attractive for both the participants and the spectators. The target was located near Lift Sopot. It consisted of an electronic measuring device that recorded the deviation from the exact centre with an accuracy of 1 cm. The point that the pilots had to hit was only 2 cm in diameter — approximately the size of a 5-cent coin.
The pilots were required to demonstrate maximum concentration and precise control of their wings during the final approach and landing. A judging committee monitored the first point of contact with the ground and recorded each competitor’s result. Distances were measured up to 200 cm. The winner in the final ranking was the participant with the lowest total number of centimetres accumulated across all completed flights.
A total of 12 rounds were planned. After the sixth round, the team competition concluded, while the top 60 pilots continued to compete in the individual ranking. Awards were presented in four categories: national teams, overall individual ranking, women and youth.
